What determines course progress?

Course progress is calculated based on learner’s completion of all required learning activities:

  • Lessons - Each lesson completed contributes equally to overall progress

  • Assessments - All the assessments (Multiple choice questions, text-based questions, exercises, and surveys) contribute equally to overall course progress.

  • Situational Tests - All the questions in situational tests contribute equally to the overall course progress. So if a situational test has 3 questions, all 3 questions contribute equally to course progress calculation

Example

  • If a course has 5 lessons, 3 assessments, and 1 situational test with 3 questions → the progress would be divided (mathematically speaking) into 11 parts

  • User’s progress in each part would impact user’s overall course progress

  • If a user has completed 5 lessons, their overall course progress would be 5/11 or approx 56%

  • If a user has completed 5 lessons and a situational test (with all 3 questions), the overall progress would be 8/11 or approximately 73%

How is course score calculated?

Course score is the average of all quiz scores from:

  • Lesson Quizzes - Questions that appear at the end of each lesson

  • Course Assessments - Multiple choice questions, text-based questions, and exercises

  • Situational Tests - Scenario-based evaluations that test practical application

The system takes all quiz scores and calculates the overall ‘correctness’ of user’s resposnes. For example if a course has 5 lesson quiz, 3 assessments, and 3 questions from situational tests and user has attempted all questions and got 6 correct - their score would be 6/11 or approximately 55%

How are learners scored on different question types?

Multiple Choice Questions: Scored based on correct answers selected

Situational Tests: Scored based on the accuracy of responses to scenario-based questions

The following question types do not have an impact on Score:

Text-Based Questions: Learners receive full points simply for submitting an answer - content quality doesn't affect the score

Exercises: Learners receive full points for submission, regardless of response content

Surveys: Learners are not scored on Surveys

Common Scenarios

Do surveys affect course score?

No, surveys are not included in score calculations. However, surveys do count toward course progress. This means learners can achieve a 100% score without completing surveys, but they need to complete them to reach 100% progress.

Same goes for Text-based and Exercise questions.

Can learners have 100% score but less than 100% progress?

Yes, this is possible. Score only considers quiz performance, while progress tracks completion of all learning activities. If learners haven't completed every lesson, assessment, or situational test, progress will be less than 100% even if they scored perfectly on all quizzes.

Learner completed everything but progress shows 99%. What's wrong?

Check that learners have:

  • Fully completed every lesson (not just opened them). Some courses may have external links as lessons, and learners have to mark them as completed to record their progress on those lessons.

  • Submitted responses to all assessments

  • Finished all situational tests and all their questions

Do learners need to pass questions to complete a course?

While questions performance affects score, course completion is based on finishing all required learning activities. Learners can complete a course even with low scores, but they need to complete all lessons, assessments and situational tests to complete a course.

Does Pass Score impact course progress?

Pass Score is a minimum score threshold that admins can set for courses. Key points:

  • Pass Score does not impact course progress - learners can still reach 100% progress regardless of their quiz performance

  • Pass Score does impact certificate eligibility - learners must achieve the Pass Score AND complete 100% of the course to earn a certificate

  • If no Pass Score is set, learners earn certificates by completing 100% of the course regardless of quiz scores

  1. Refresh browser page

  2. Log out and log back in

  3. Clear browser cache

  4. Check internet connection
