Situational Tests

1. What are Situational Tests?

Situational Tests are scenario-based assessments that evaluate learners' ability to apply knowledge in real-world contexts. Each Situational Test presents learners with a realistic workplace situation followed by 3-4 questions that test their understanding and decision-making skills based on that scenario.

2. How are Situational Tests structured?

Each Situational Test contains:

  • A situation - A detailed, realistic scenario that learners might encounter in their work environment

  • 3-4 questions - Multiple questions based on the presented situation that test practical application of knowledge

These questions require learners to analyze the situation and demonstrate their understanding of how to handle similar real-world challenges.

3. How do Situational Tests impact course progress and score?

Situational Tests contribute to both course progress and score:

  • Progress: Each Situational Test must be completed to achieve 100% course progress. Each question in situational test have equal weightage in course progress calculation

  • Score: Situational Test results are included in the average score calculation, contributing to the learner's overall course score and Pass Score evaluation (if applicable).

4. How are Situational Tests scored?

Situational Tests are scored based on the accuracy of learners' responses to the scenario-based questions. Unlike text-based questions or exercises where submission earns full points, Situational Tests require correct answers to achieve maximum scores.

The scoring depends on:

  • Number of questions answered correctly

  • Quality of responses where applicable

  • Understanding demonstrated of the scenario context

5. Who can add Situational Tests to courses?

Currently, only 5Mins can add Situational Tests to courses. This ensures:

  • Quality control of scenario content

  • Proper alignment with learning objectives

  • Consistency in assessment standards

  • Expert curation of realistic workplace situations

In future, admins would also be able to add Situational tests.

6. Where do Situational Tests appear in courses?

Situational Tests can be placed at various points within a course structure:

  • At the beginning of the course in β€œwarm-up” section of the course

  • At the end of course

7. How do learners experience Situational Tests?

From the learner perspective:

  • Learners are presented with a detailed scenario to read and understand

  • They must then answer 3-4 questions based on that situation

  • Questions test their ability to apply course concepts to real-world scenarios

  • Responses are evaluated for accuracy and understanding

  • Results contribute to both progress completion and overall score
