What Are Course Resources?

Course resources are supplementary materials that enhance learning by providing additional context, reference information, or practical tools for learners. These can include documents, spreadsheets, and other file types that support the course content.

Steps shown in this video

  1. Resources are attached while you build a course β€” open Content & Courses β†’ Create course
  2. Switch to the Resources tab β€” supplementary PDFs, Word docs and Excel files that back up your content
  3. Add Resources opens the upload panel
  4. Pick the file type β€” PDF, Word or Excel
  5. Name the document β€” this is the title learners see, so make it descriptive
  6. Select file picks the document off your computer β€” up to 50MB each
  7. Save is greyed out until a file is picked. Learners then download it from the course's Resources tab

Types of Supported Resources

You can add the following file types as resources to your courses:

  • PDF documents (.pdf)

  • Microsoft Word documents (.doc, .docx)

  • Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)

Adding Resources to a Course

For Administrators

  1. Navigate to the Course Management page

    • Log in to your administrator account

    • Select "Courses" from the main navigation

    • Find and click on the course you wish to add resources to

  2. Access the Resources section

    • Click on the "Resources" tab in the course editor

    • You'll see the current resources (if any) and an "Add Resource" button

    • Click the "Add Resource" button

    • Select a file from your computer or drag and drop files into the upload area

    • Enter a title for the resource (this is what learners will see)

    • Save course to add resources

Removing Resources

  1. Find the resource in the resource section

  2. Click the "Delete" icon (trash can)

  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted

How Learners Access Resources

Learners can access course rersources on course page in resources tab. Users can click on any resource to download it.

Best Practices for Course Resources

  • Keep file sizes reasonable to ensure quick downloads

  • Use descriptive filenames to help learners identify content

  • Update resources regularly to ensure information remains current

  • Consider accessibility needs when creating resource materials

  • Balance required vs. optional resources to avoid overwhelming learners
