What is a lesson quiz?

A lesson quiz is a short set of multiple-choice questions attached to a single lesson. It lets you check that learners understood the lesson, reinforces the key points, and rewards learners with points when they answer correctly. Quizzes can be added to any lesson type, including videos, audio, PDFs, external links, and flashcards.

  1. A lesson quiz is a short set of multiple-choice questions attached to a lesson — it checks understanding and rewards learners with points. You can add one to any lesson type. From Your Content, click Add Content.
  2. We'll add a quiz to a video lesson here, but the steps are identical for audio, PDF, external link and flashcard lessons.
  3. Give the lesson a name.
  4. Open the Quiz tab — this is where you build the quiz.
  5. Tick Generate AI Quizzes and, for supported sources like YouTube videos with a transcript, 5Mins drafts questions for you to review and edit after publishing.
  6. Or click Add Question Manually to write your own. This opens the question builder.
  7. Type your question. Each question is multiple choice with exactly one correct answer.
  8. Write the answer options.
  9. Use the radio to mark which option is correct — it's flagged as Correct so learners get instant feedback.
  10. Add option lets you offer more choices.
  11. Optionally add an explanation — learners see it after they answer, turning the quiz into a learning moment. Save adds the question, and you can repeat for as many as you like. When the lesson is ready, Publish Lesson makes the quiz live.

Adding a quiz to a lesson

When you create or edit a lesson, open the Quiz tab in the lesson form. From there you have two ways to build the quiz:

  • Add questions manually - Write each question yourself, add the answer options, mark the correct option, and optionally add an explanation that learners see after they answer.

  • Generate with AI - For supported sources (such as YouTube videos where a transcript is available), you can let 5Mins draft quiz questions for you. You then review, edit, and approve the generated questions before they go live.

Whichever method you use, every question stays editable: you can change the wording, add or remove options, update which option is correct, and adjust explanations at any time.

How questions behave

Each question is multiple choice with a set of answer options, exactly one of which is marked correct. When a learner selects an answer:

  • They get immediate feedback on whether the answer was correct.

  • If you added an explanation, it's shown to help reinforce the learning point.

  • The learner moves through the questions one at a time until the quiz is complete.

Scoring and attempts

Learners earn points for answering correctly, and those points count towards their overall learning progress and leaderboards. A quiz is treated as passed only when the learner has answered all of its questions correctly.

The number of attempts a learner gets is controlled by your course's assessment settings. If a learner doesn't pass, they can retry up to the allowed number of attempts to improve their result. Quiz results feed into your course reports, so you can see how learners are performing.

Tips for good quizzes

  • Keep questions focused on the most important takeaways from the lesson.

  • Use clear, unambiguous wording and make sure only one option is genuinely correct.

  • Add explanations so learners understand why an answer is right, turning the quiz into a learning moment.
