Build assessments: the quiz and test types

This is for admins who want to check that learners have understood a lesson, not just watched it. By the end you'll be able to add a quiz to any lesson, either drafted by AI or written yourself.

Before you start

Finish Create flashcards first. Assessments are built at the lesson level, so it helps to already have a lesson you want to attach questions to. Note that the course Assessments tab shows results and lets you view answers, it is not where assessments are built.

  4. Add a question manually, or let AI draft them for you
  5. Set a pass score on the course, and learners must get it right to complete

A lesson quiz is a short set of multiple-choice questions attached to a lesson. It checks understanding and rewards learners with points, and you can add one to any lesson type.

The steps

  1. From Your Content, click Add Content. This walk-through adds a quiz to a video lesson, but the steps are identical for audio, PDF, external link and flashcard lessons.
  2. Give the lesson a name.
  3. Open the Quiz tab. This is where you build the quiz.
  4. Decide how to create questions. Tick Generate AI Quizzes and, for supported sources like YouTube videos with a transcript, 5Mins drafts questions for you to review and edit after publishing. Or click Add Question Manually to write your own, which opens the question builder.
  5. Type your question. Each question is multiple choice with exactly one correct answer.
  6. Write the answer options, and use the radio to mark which option is correct. It's flagged as Correct so learners get instant feedback.
  7. Use Add option to offer more choices.
  8. Optionally add an explanation. Learners see it after they answer, turning the quiz into a learning moment.
  9. Click Save to add the question, and repeat for as many as you like.
  10. When the lesson is ready, click Publish Lesson to make the quiz live.

Two ways to build a quiz

You can write questions yourself with Add Question Manually, or tick Generate AI Quizzes to have 5Mins draft them for you from the lesson, then review and edit. Either way, each question is multiple choice with one correct answer, and a quiz can sit on any lesson - video, audio, document or external link.

What you should see now

Your lesson has a quiz attached, and it's live in your library. When learners reach it inside a course, they answer the questions and get instant feedback. You can review results later from the course Assessments tab, where View Answers shows what each learner chose.

Common questions

Can a question have more than one correct answer? No. Each question is multiple choice with exactly one correct answer.

Do I have to write every question myself? No. Tick Generate AI Quizzes to have 5Mins draft questions from supported sources, then review and edit them after publishing.

Where do I see how learners did? On the course, open the Assessments tab to view results, including View Answers for individual responses.
