Create flashcards

This is for admins who want an interactive, bite-sized lesson type rather than a video or document. By the end you'll be able to build a flashcard lesson, either drafted by AI or from scratch, and publish it to your library.

Before you start

Finish Add richer lesson types first, so you know how lessons sit in your library and get added to courses. If you want AI to draft your cards, have a source file ready.

Steps shown in this video

  1. Flashcards turn key facts into quick cards that stick - let's build one from scratch
  2. Choose Create flashcard
  3. Create from scratch starts you with a blank set of three cards
  4. Name the lesson
  5. Type a title straight onto the first card, then a short summary underneath
  6. Now bring the card to life - Add Image
  7. Generate one with AI, no design skills needed
  8. Describe the picture you want in a prompt
  9. Hit Generate, and 5Mins draws it for you in seconds
  10. There's your image, made from that prompt - drop it on the card, then Publish, and the set is ready

The steps

  1. From Your Content, click Add Content to open the upload picker.
  2. Choose Create flashcard.
  3. Decide how to start. Use Transform your content with AI to upload a PDF, Word, PowerPoint, video or audio file and let AI draft the cards for you to review and edit. Or use Create from scratch to start with a blank template of three cards and build the lesson yourself.
  4. Give the flashcard lesson a title.
  5. Work on one card at a time. Write a rich-text title and summary, add, duplicate or reorder cards, and apply a theme for a consistent look.
  6. Add a background or foreground image to any card. Upload your own, generate one with AI, or pick from stock footage.
  7. When your cards are ready, click Publish Lesson to add it to your library.

What you should see now

Your flashcard lesson appears in Your Content, ready to include in a course alongside your other lessons.

Common questions

Can I edit the cards AI drafts for me? Yes. AI gives you a starting set of cards to review and edit, so you stay in control of the wording.

How many cards can a lesson have? Create from scratch starts you with three cards, and you can add, duplicate or reorder cards as you build.
